Question:,How can Matthew 24:36 (only the Father knows the day and hour, not even the Son) be true if Jesus was God and omniscient ?,Answer:,To be honest, I do not know exactly how this worked. Jesus lowered himself in ways which I do not throroughly comprehend when he came to earth and took on a physical body. Obviously, Jesus in diapers did not know everything. Jesus chose temporarily to take on human form and give up some of his omniscience and omnipotence. The Bible does not specify which of his “powers” and “abilities” as deity Jesus sacrificed temporarily to take on human form. I am pretty sure that he ate food, urinated, burped, got colds, dealt with human emotions and so forth. I do not believe that he was fully omnicient while he was limited to an earthly body. I am sorry that I cannot define all this, but I take Jesus’ word for it that for some reason, while he was in an earthly body, Jesus was not privy to knowledge of the time of his return. I am confident (though I suppose I cannot prove it) that Jesus, now at the right hand of the Father in heaven, is fully cognizant of what is in store.,You ask a good question which raises interesting theological questions. Did Jesus know all thoughts or all people while in the body? I assume not, although he seemed to know the thoughts of Nathanael (John 1:47-50) I believe he had to learn the Torah as a child. One slightly helpful passage is Luke 2:52, “And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.” Jesus was not born full-grown and he certainly did not have the same sort of omniscience and omnipotence of deity when he was in the flesh. We are left somewhat on our own to induce from what we know of Jesus to what extent he was limited while in the body.,John Oakes
