Question:
What did Jesus mean when he said that “the last will be first and the first will be last” in Mat. 20:16? Who he is talking about?
Answer:
He means that those who seek to lift themselves up will be humbled, but those who humble themselves will be lifted up.  This idea is repeated several times in the New Testament.  For example, there is James 2:1-4.  Also, Jesus explains himself in Matthew 20:26.  Whoever would be great among you should be servant of all.
