Can you recommend some books on The Biblical Flood?
I appreciate anyone with passion to study issues related to the Bible! To
be honest, I do not have a book I can recommend to you as being really
good, although I will mention one which has some strong points. The
problem is that most people who look at the flood either reject it as a
total myth or attach to the flood account a lot of what I, as a scientist,
consider to be very bad science. There are a number of books such as “The
Genesis Flood” by Whicomb and Morris, and “In the Beginning” by Walt Brown
which fit this description. Both books have some good information and
bring up thought-provoking questions, but both make assumptions which
force them to deal in a very skewed way with the science, in my opinion.
Basically, what these and other authors do is try to find some sort of
“natural” explanation for the flood. I believe there is no natural
explanation for the flood. I believe it was a very massive miraculous
event caused by God for a short period of time for a specific reason. If
the flood was a totally supernatural event, those who look for a natural
explanation will be disappointed. I believe this is the case.
The book I want to recommend is “Explorers of Ararat” by Rex Geissler (and
others). It is available at www.greatcommission.com to buy or to read on
line. This book is not available in bookstores. It gives a fair-minded
treatment of the search for the ark and some of the issues related to this
search, such as whether finding the ark would be significant. Although
this is the most fair-minded in dealing with some of the evidence I know,
it does not really address some of the broader questions I know you are
asking, such as what happened to the animals, etc.
I will recommend to you another web site, which is doesgodexist.org This
web site is run by John Clayton, a Christian geologist who has what I feel
is a very fair-minded approach to the science.
