Do not let anyone fool you. That day will not come until the enemies of God to rebel against him and the evil man, to be destroyed has appeared. That man is against God and everything that is dedicated to God. To put his throne in the temple of God, and claim that he is God.

Answer:

This is one of the more obscure passages in the New Testament.  Let me be perfectly honest with you.   I do not know what this passage means.   It may be a prophecy of a future great falling away and a literal person who will lead this terrible event.  Some identify this person as the antichrist.   Either that or it may be a more general prediction that in the future, some who were influential in the Church will leave God and take many with them.  If, in fact, this is some sort of prophecy, then we would be well advised to not try to pre-interpret the prophecy.  It is unwise, bordering on arrogant or foolish to attempt to give specific interpretation to predictive prophecy before the events are fulfilled or even when we think that our present times may be the fulfillment.  The hundreds of predictions coming all the time from supposed Bible teachers that the end times are upon us or who give specific predictions of end-dates shows that this is NOT to the glory of God, but only to the glory of the one making the prediction (a glory which quickly fades when the specific prediction does not come true).  So, for us, I believe that we should allow for the possibility that this passage is a prophecy of a great falling away in the future, but since we can do nothing in particular about that, we should take it as a warning against false teachers and those who would drag us away from Christ.  It is an unfortunate fact that many of the greatest enemies of Christ are people who claim to be Christians.  We should deepen our relationship with God and know the scriptures thoroughly to innoculate ourselves against this possibilty.
