Scott Buchannan has written an excellent article on the prophetic meaning of Daniel 11:36-45, with an assist from Dr. John Oakes.  The consensus opinion of scholars is that Daniel was written after the events prophesied in Daniel 11:1-35, undermining the very idea of biblical inspiration.  The same scholars claim that the subsequent prophecy in Daniel 11:36-45 is an unsuccessful attempt to predict the future, with no parallels in actual history.  Others claim that it is a prophecy at end times.  Both are simply wrong.

First of all, the evidence is a slam dunk that Daniel 11:1-35 was written at least 250 years before the events, if not nearly 400 years before the events.  This is proved conclusively by Dr. John Oakes in his book Daniel, Prophet to the Nations (available at www.ipibooks.com  https://ipibooks.com/products/daniel)

Second, as Buchannan shows, with Dr. Oakes, Daniel 11:36-45 is a prophecy of the events in the first century BC, when Rome completed the conquest of the last of the Greek kingdoms–the King of the South, the Ptolemaic Dynasty.  When Octavian/Augustus defeated Marc Antony and Cleopatra at the Battle of Actium, taking over Egypt and parts of Arabia and Northern Africa, the events fit every single detail in the prophecy in Daniel 11:36-45.  This conclusion was reached by Dr. Oakes in his book on Daniel, but Scott Buchannan goes into far greater detail, proving beyond reasonable doubt that this formerly obscure prophecy fits well in all the other amazing prophecies of the future in Daniel.  I strongly recommend you read this article!
