I now believe in God as a creator due to the complexity of the creation. Why should I believe in Christianity rather than Judaism or Islam?
I’ve decided that there has to be a creator of everything due to the
complexity of life and all creation, but how do I know Christianity is the
right religion and not Islam or Judaism?
This is a very good question. It is a bad assumption that one can simply
leap from belief in God based on the scientific evidence to belief in
Christianity. The Christian faith will stand or fall on the evidence
specific to the inspiration of the Bible. My simple answer to this
question is to advise you to get a copy of my book “Reasons for Belief: A
Handbook of Christian Evidence.” This book was written with the exact
question you ask in mind. The book covers the evidence for the miracles
in the Bible, the resurrection of Christ, the messianic prophecies, other
prophecies in the Bible, historical and archaeological evidence for the
Bible, science and the Bible and other topics. I would suggest some of
the articles at the web site which give very strong support for the
inspiration of the Bible. One is titled “The Ultimate Miracle.” Another
is titled “We should have known he was coming.”
I am convinced that the evidence for Christianity, for Jesus being the Son
of God and for the inspiration of the Bible is overwhelming. Prophecies
in the Old Testament predict that the Messiah would be crucified, that he
would be born in Bethlehem, that he would be raised in Galilee, that he
would be betrayed for thirty pieces of silver, that he would be silent
when accused and many more. In fact, the book of Daniel chapter nine even
predicts the year he would be crucified. The historical evidence for the
accuracy and the inspiration of the Bible is very strong. The accuracy of
the science in the Bible is impossible to explain outside the assumption
that the Bible is from God (see my book, “Is There a God?”). I believe
that those who simply read the Bible with an open mind will know that this
book is the very word of God which can lead to the salvation of our souls.
Let me make one more suggestion. That is that you might want to consider
my newest book, From Shadow to Reality, which is jam packed with evidence
and reasons to believe that Jesus is the son of God and that the Bible is
inspired by God. If you still have a question, you might want to get a
copy of the Koran. This is the scripture of Islam. The Koran is in some
ways a great book, but I can say with confidence that if you read it you
will see immediately the difference between an inspired book (The Bible)
and one which is the product of human wisdom (The Koran). You might want
to look at the power point at the web site on Islam, which provides some
specifics about the religion, about Mohammed and about the Koran. If you
have any more specific questions, especially as you begin to do some
research on your own, please feel free to ask me.
