Question:

Please clarify Romans 2: 6. If we sinful humans are justified by Jesus’
blood then why will “God give to each person according to what he has
done” ? I have read in the bible that all the christians will stand for
judgement in front of God at judgement day.

Answer:

In answer to your question, remember that in context the entire chapter
deals with the specific judgement of God as well as his impartiality when
it comes to the righteous and the unrighteous. Paul was addressing a
serious issue in the church. The Jews regarded themselves as superior to
the Gentiles because they (the Jews) possessed the Mosaic Law. According
to the Jews in general, Gentiles were immoral in their lifestyle because
they did not have the Law of Moses. Unfortunately this same mindset crept
into the church, which caused many of the Jewish Christians to
hypocritically judge their Gentile brothers ( v.1). Paul was reminding the
Jewish Christians that they are just as dammed without Christ as their
Gentile brothers (v. 7-10), and that God is the ultimate judge of men.

Secondly, Jesus’ death on the cross didn’t mean that all men are now
automatically saved (if this was the case then all the wicked in the Bible
would be declared righteous and no one would have to evangelize). His
death on the cross gave all men the opportunity to repent and come to a
saving relationship with Him if we choose to do so. Unfortunately humans
have the choice to reject God and many have done so(of course there was
eternal consequences to this).

In verse 6, when Paul states, “God will give to each person according to
what he has done,” he is simply saying that based on our choice to follow
God or our rejection of Him we basically will reap what we sow. Paul also
makes this clear in Galatians 6:7-8 when he says, “Do not be deceived: God
cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his
sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to
please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.” God will give
to each person according to what he has done because our lifestyle
reflects our choice to follow God or reject him. Hopefully this helps

God Bless!
