Question:

Why do we worship Jesus? I was asked this question while sharing my faith, and I told him that Jesus had equality with God (Philippians 2). I would like to have a firm understanding so that I can articulate this to people who have the same question.

Answer:

Reasons we worship Jesus:

1. Because Jesus is God and it is a natural thing for the vastly inferior but sentient being to worship the one who is vastly superior in power and authority. Hebrews 1:3-4.

2. Because Jesus is God and God has asked us to worship him. Col 1:15-21. I will not bother to list the dozens of verses in which God asks us to worship him.

3. Because there are multiple examples of Jesus being worshipped/honored in the New Testament which, rather clearly, are an indication that we should do so as well. Examples include John 20:28, Luke 5:8, Rev 5:6-14, Mark 14:3-9, Hebrews 1:6, 2 Peter 3:18, . Dozens more could be listed, especially in the book of Revelation.
